City of San Fernando, La Union –The Department of Science and Technology Region 1 (DOST-1) program Tekno Presyensya “Syensya ken Teknolohiya Para Kadagiti Umili” in partnership with Radyo Pilipinas Agoo DZAG 97.1FM presents the Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory (RSTL) services on Thursday, December 9.
The program hosted by Ms. Carla Joyce Cajala, Ms. Gael Myca Dacanay and Ms. Antoniet Lingsit and attended by the RSTL head and technical managers from the different laboratory Ms. Lena Rosario, Ms. Annalie Rosales, Ms. Cyrille Ann Maneja, Engr. Bernadine Suniega and Engr. Marlon Orpilla, was streamed online thru Facebook live.
RSTL comprises of Chemistry laboratory, Microbiology laboratory, Shelf-life Testing, and sensory evaluation laboratory, and Regional Metrology Laboratory (RML). Ms. Rosario as laboratory head elaborated and introduced the services that each laboratory offers which are product testing: Chemical analysis, microbiological analysis, shelf-life, and sensory evaluation and calibration services.
Additionally, RSTL provides guidance and technical consultations especially for product registrations, training like food safety and halal. Staff of RSTL are considered experts in their respective professions as registered chemists, chemical technicians, microbiologists, medical technologists, and engineers.
Ms. Rosario, who is also the technical manager of the Chemistry Laboratory, outlined the services and testing performed in this section of the lab. Ms. Maneja and Ms. Rosales, on the other hand, talked about the Microbiology lab and the Shelf-life and sensory evaluation services, respectively.
As previously stated, the microbiology laboratory is responsible for ensuring the safety of food and water for consumption. Engr. Suniega, RML's technical manager, gave light to the laboratory's testing and services with due consideration on the calibration activities and significance to peoples’ daily life. Furthermore, RSTL aims to instill the science and technology culture for young scientists in the region.
